Police in Ankara said in a statement that a man detained for setting it alight suffered from psychological problems and also had a prior criminal record.

"The YPG/SDF must stop its policy of playing for time," Fidan told a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shibani in Ankara.

The PKK, designated a terrorist group by Turkey and its Western allies, began its insurgency in 1984.

The defense ministry accused the SDF of carrying out a rocket barrage on one of the army's outposts in the city's countryside, injuring four troops and three civilians.

Drone attacks in Iraq have become more frequent in recent months, though this is the first attack near Sulaymaniyah in months, sources said.
