Italy’s Senate approved the base text of a bill that would allow bans on antisemitic rallies and codify the IHRA definition into law, sparking debate over free speech and protest.

The teens have been charged with aggravated harassment charges, and one has been charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime, according to the New York Police Department. 

"We have people in our communities who are depending on us not just to lead, but to bring calm and solace to our communities and stop hate.”

The suspect had allegedly vandalized the Congregation Shaarey Zedek marble facade and door glass panels with graffiti that included swastikas and the word “hate.”

The retraction late Thursday was enough to prompt Jewish Senator Jacky Rosen to drop the hold she had placed on Admiral Kevin Lunday’s nomination to permanently lead the organization.

The Chabad said that the center's reinforced glass windows remained largely intact after the incident, and no one was inside at the time.

The Nazi insignia and the noose, a symbol closely associated with lynchings, were now labeled as “potentially divisive,” downgraded from hate symbols.

The Coast Guard’s top official said the regulations had been mischaracterized and that promotion of the symbols “will be thoroughly investigated and severely punished.”
