Reuters reported that internal documents from late 2024 stated that Meta expected to earn about 10% of its revenue that year – about $16 billion – from illicit advertising.

The mother-daughter duo were said to have targeted "vulnerable" members of Australia's Vietnamese community.

The physical punishments for scams were introduced after the Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill was passed by Parliament on November 4.

The film stars had been told they were being considered for a part by a major, unnamed film director and were asked to send audition tapes along with several forms of personal data.

Three young men operated a profile purporting to be a young woman on dating and sex sites, where they would blackmail victims to send them thousands of shekels.

The fraud, committed largely via telephone, particularly targeted Israel's Russian-speaking community, with scammers speaking in Russian.

The Israel Internet Association stressed that the findings highlight the urgent need to raise awareness and promote individual responsibility among users.
