Pride Parade

Turkish police arrested 15 people and shut down a previously banned LGBTQ+ pride march. The annual June march takes place in cities across the globe but rarely in predominantly Islamic countries.

The New York City, St. Louis, and Toronto pride parades were disrupted by anti-Israel protests, with the Canadian event ending early due to the demonstrations. Similar efforts were stopped in London.

President Tayyip Erdogan's Islamic-rooted AK Party has toughened its rhetoric against the LGBT community over the past decade and banned pride marches since 2015, citing “security reasons.”

The embassy charged that Dublin Pride had altered its policy to stop national flags being flown as a circumvented way to prevent the Israeli flag from being displayed at the event.
