"We do not confidently attribute these attempts to OpenAI, but they exhibit tactics consistent with prior observed agent activity that we have attributed to OpenAI in a similar timeframe."

In a video address posted to X on Tuesday, FBI Assistant Director Brett Leatherman said the recent arrest of a Dutch man in connection with the ShinyHunters investigation should serve as a warning.

The attack included three open-source AI tools, with the operation costing between $12,000 and $18,000 in total, and reports of it still being active.

ShinyHunters told Reuters on Tuesday that the data it had was "very very sensitive" and included medical information, discharges, prescriptions, clinical visits, and "any health issues with Agents."

The latest example came on Friday when OpenAI said its agents had leaked 53 images from ChatGPT users. OpenAI declined to say if the images were AI-generated or identified real people.

Researchers said that the AI was prompted to do mundane data collection, but struggled to get the information it needed and instead hacked into websites.

Data includes details of assignments to specific field offices and, in some cases, to units engaged in high-stakes intelligence, security, or counterespionage work.

The bureau did not immediately reply to messages seeking comment on Tuesday.

The hackers managed to change equipment settings, including disabling remote access and alarms and altering pumping cycles, Colorado Governor Polis' spokesperson Ally Sullivan said.

Britain's National Cyber Security Center said Iranian state-linked cyber actors had used a spyware family known as "CHOSEN BRICK" to steal emails, messages, and other sensitive information.
