US District Judge Emmet Sullivan said the processing centers must perform morning sweeps and then afternoon sweeps "to ensure that any identified local ballots can be delivered that day."

The attempted intrusions, many of which were internally flagged by Microsoft Corp over the summer, were carried out by a group often nicknamed "Fancy Bear."

CISA and the FBI confirmed Friday that "the actor successfully obtained voter registration data in at least one state."

On Thursday, USPS said it had delivered more than 100 million blank or completed ballots since early September.

The emails included a video claimed to be from The Proud Boys, a American far-right group, but security analysts traced it back to previous Iranian hacking activity.

"Our team watches for the threats and trends that we need to be ready for, and one that we are very aware of ... is a hack-and-leak operation, particularly in the next 6-8 weeks."

NAEBC and its activity, which have not been previously reported, now show that Russian attempts to influence US voters ahead of the 2020 election have targeted both sides of the political divide.

SKDK Vice Chair Hilary Rosen declined to comment. A Biden spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.

The White House has sought to control the flow of information concerning foreign threats to the election in recent weeks.

Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post announcing the changes that he was concerned about the unique challenges voters would face due to the coronavirus pandemic.
