Israel’s strike in Syria risks turning tensions with Turkey into a confrontation that serves neither country

Talk of Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords appears to underestimate how much Riyadh and other countries have become concerned about Israeli strikes in places like Syria.

"Erdogan is dragging Turkey into dangerous adventures in Syria. Israel will not allow any actor to threaten its security," the defense minister wrote on X/Twitter.

US President Donald Trump told Axios that he had been briefed on the Israeli strikes against Syria, but declined to specify whether the briefing had come before or after the strikes occurred.

Ankara rejected allegations made by Jerusalem that the deployment of Turkish forces violated the “status quo” and posed a threat to Israel’s security.

A source familiar with the details told The Jerusalem Post that Israel recently provided the US with intelligence on attempts by Syria to build up its military capabilities.

Shortly after criticism emerged from within the defense establishment over the pragmatism the government showed toward Trump's peace plan, a decision was made to completely halt targeted killings.

“We won’t retreat from the current lines until Hamas lays down all of its arms,” Netanyahu said in the video, adding that “we will allow IDF troops to do everything necessary to protect themselves."

He added that “nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a deal, or total surrender, is accomplished.”
