Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Friday that if Israel renews fighting in Gaza, “there will be a heavy price.”

Erdogan added that Turkey will do everything possible to ensure that the ceasefire agreement is fully implemented.

“We are happy that our brothers in Gaza have reached this stage and that joy has returned to the faces of the Palestinians,” she aid. “We did everything in our power to reach this point and to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza."

“We hope that Israel will not repeat its mistakes, and we will stand in its way if it does not uphold the agreement in Gaza. I salute all the Palestinian resistance fighters, especially in Gaza.”

Erdogan's involvement in mediation efforts

Turkey has been involved in the mediation talks in the new ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, as well as in the planning for the “day after” the war in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan, one of Israel’s harshest critics throughout the war, has leveraged his good relationship with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to secure a central role alongside Egypt and Qatar.

According to Erdogan, Turkey also intends to take part in a “task force” that will monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the fulfillment of its clauses.

A senior Turkish official separately told Reuters that the regional power will take part in a joint task force - alongside Israel, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt - established to locate the bodies of deceased hostages in Gaza whose locations are unknown.
