There is quite a distance between a boiling pot and a photoshoot camera, but Ruti Broudo decided to cross it. The restaurateur and entrepreneur, known mainly from the kitchen, from MasterChef, and from the culinary empire she built for herself, is now doing something that doesn’t really fit her usual image – she was chosen to be the face of a beauty campaign. Dr. Udi Bar, an expert in aesthetic medicine, chose her for his new campaign, and the choice is quite surprising. Broudo did not build her career in front of fashion cameras; she built it in restaurants. So what is she doing there?
This choice is especially interesting in light of Broudo’s approach to beauty and external appearance. Just recently she uploaded a viral video that amused the internet, in which she presented herself “before and after” ahead of the MasterChef finale. In the video, the 64-year-old appeared without makeup and without a blow-dry, and said with a smile: “This is what a 64-year-old woman looks like – this is the truth. And if you want the surgeon’s number now – be my guest.” Afterwards, she presented the finished version after about two hours of professional work and noted sarcastically: “A bit of hair, a hair transplant, a bit of makeup, clothes and jewelry.”
The honesty and sense of humor that characterize Broudo are probably exactly what attracted Dr. Bar to choose her. In an era in which the beauty industry is trying to be more authentic and less fake, Broudo represents exactly that – someone who does not pretend to be perfect, does not hide the processes her face goes through before an appearance, and is not afraid to laugh about the whole thing. Dr. Bar’s campaign presents his skincare line, and Broudo will appear in it as the face representing the brand.
This is the first time she has done something like this, and the question is whether we will see her more in this field. Broudo built her career around restaurants and culinary projects, and she is known mainly as a judge on MasterChef and a successful restaurateur. The step into the beauty world is completely new territory for her, but if one thing is clear from the way she presents herself – it’s that she will do it her way, without pretending to be someone else.
