Middle Eastern Cookies, Achva

Just like that, without fuss or hesitation, the veteran tahini and halva company launches “Middle Eastern” savory cookies, straight to one of the most recognizable shelves in supermarkets — and in our lives.

Achva’s new series includes three versions — classic flavor, garlic-onion, and za’atar — with all the expected characteristics. That is, oven-baked cookies, with no frying and no preservatives, a crispy texture, and a price promising to cut about half off competitor Abadi’s offer (NIS 10–13 per 400-gram bag, let’s hope it stays that way).

The flavors are very good, fitting perfectly into an almost native Israeli niche, certainly in its habits and traditions, and seasoning it all with a good kick of za’atar and garlic-onion. Thus, a welcome competition is born, like any competition, in a consumer arena where it will be fascinating to see the reactions. Multi-million claims in court are cute, but in the end, the buyers will decide — and now, at least, they face a real dilemma.

Garlic Mayonnaise Sauce, McDonald’s

Sometimes, the smallest and seemingly most trivial details are the ones that make the biggest upgrades and leaps forward. Just ask McDonald’s.

The new sauce from the burger giant spreads naturally into its already successful rib-entrecote series and slightly enhances the eating experience. The base is mayonnaise and garlic flavors, the texture is right on the line between thick and creamy, and overall, it’s a hit. A simple hit, but still a hit.

Tuna Meal with Chickpeas, Rio Mare

The popular tuna brand from Italy is expanding its popular Insalatissime series with a very natural combination — especially for Israelis.

Rio Mare’s tuna and chickpea can (39% chickpeas, 23% tuna, NIS 15.90–22.90) aims to be a meal in itself and meets that standard for travelers, for example, or simply for the hungry who need to grab a decent quick bite on the go.

It emphasizes Mediterranean character and strong flavors, avoids preservatives, and requires only a fork (or better yet, if you have a moment, some chopped vegetables or other simple bases) to reach satisfaction. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
