The security warning level at the United States' Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar has been lowered after a heightened alert triggered on Wednesday, three sources briefed on the situation told Reuters on Thursday.
US aircraft that were moved out of Al Udeid on Wednesday are gradually returning to the base, according to a source. The other two sources, both diplomats who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that some personnel who were advised to leave the base on Wednesday have also been permitted to return.
The US embassy in Qatar did not comment when contacted by Reuters.
On Wednesday, Qatar's International Media Office (IMO) released a statement regarding the evacuation of US troops and aircraft from Al Udeid air base.
According to the IMO, the measures were undertaken "in response to the current regional tensions," adding that further updates will be communicated as they arise.
Iran threatened retaliatory strikes on US bases
Fears that the Islamic Republic of Iran would target US bases in Gulf states arose after Trump indicated that he may take military action against the regime if it escalates violence against civilian anti-regime protests that have raged across Iran for over three weeks.
The Iranian regime threatened to retaliate against nearby US bases if Trump were to issue strikes.
On Thursday, reports indicated that Trump had told Tehran the US would not strike.
