The US will be engaging in conversations with Hamas on demilitarization and will discuss what amnesty program can be given to Hamas with Israel, US officials said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
While Israel is still skeptical about Hamas disarming, the president still believes that it will be difficult but possible.
"The goal here is to create the alternative to Hamas that wants that peace, figure out how to empower them," the official said, referring to a new committee of Palestinian technocrats as a new "government" for Gaza.
The officials also addressed the Gaza peacekeeping force, noting that "a lot of countries" are involved.
Invitations to participate in the Gaza Board of Peace were also sent on Wednesday, with the countries selected personally by President Trump.
More information on the international stabilization force will be released in two weeks, and the US will make Gaza-related announcements at the Davos Forum, which will take place January 19-23.
The US also wants to see Turkey and Israel begin rebuilding their relationship, officials said.
This is a developing story.
