Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly met with former British prime minister Tony Blair last week, Israel Public Broadcaster KAN News reported on Saturday.

As of Saturday night, the Prime Minister's Office has not confirmed that the meeting took place.

Sources familiar with the details told KAN that Blair is discussing the possibility of allowing the Palestinian Authority to take control of certain areas in the Gaza Strip in meetings with both Netanyahu and Arab states.

This would initially be carried out as a pilot scheme, which would become permanent if successful, KAN noted, and ultimately be conditional on the PA carrying out certain reforms.

Blair's initiative was not dismissed outright by Israel, KAN reported.

What is Tony Blair's role in the Middle East?

US President Donald Trump has proposed Blair as leading the "Board of Peace" that would oversee the post-war administration of the Gaza Strip.

Senior Palestinian officials rejected this proposal on November 7, claiming that a Western board administering the Gaza Strip would be a return to the days of the British Mandate.

However, Blair met with PA Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh on November 23 to discuss issues related to the “day after” the war in Gaza, as well as issues related to the West Bank and Palestinian statehood, Sheikh wrote in a X/Twitter post.

The meeting follows the UN Security Council vote to back US President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan.
