Four people have been killed in a helicopter crash southeast of Montreal, police said on Saturday afternoon.

National broadcasters CBC and CTV reported that police said the crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. and that the aircraft was on fire when first responders arrived at the site near Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville.

All four occupants of the aircraft were reported dead by the Surete du Quebec, the provincial police force.

Police did not immediately provide details about the helicopter's ownership, origin, or its purpose for the journey.

Canada's Transportation Safety Board is deploying investigators.

Canadian Transport Minister expresses condolences for helicopter crash

Canadian Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon expressed his condolences on X/Twitter, saying that "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy."

He added that Transport Canada is monitoring the situation and is ready to provide support.
