British anti-Israel politician George Galloway was detained at London Gatwick Airport on Saturday, the Workers Party of Britain (WPB) announced on X/Twitter.
“At 11 a.m., we were informed by police officers in Gatwick that our party leader, George Galloway, and his wife had been detained at the airport,” the WPB stated.
Galloway founded and is the head of the WPB.
“The police agreed that they would pass a message to our comrades from us and pass back a reply from them,” the WPB continued. “Despite repeated attempts to gather further information, and despite repeated calls to the police, we have no further information on their well-being, nor on the observation of their rights.”
Arrest must be political intimidation, WPB concludes
The party went on to assert that there was no information on any charges or offenses that Galloway may have committed. It therefore stated that his detainment must have been “politically motivated intimidation.”
“We call on all supporters and friends to amplify this message and demand the IMMEDIATE RELEASE of our leaders,” the WPB concluded.
The post tagged the British Transport Police, which responded by stating that it does not police airports and that it had not detained anyone at Gatwick Airport on Saturday.
