Popular television chef Gordon Ramsay revealed on Instagram on Friday that he underwent surgery to remove a non-melanoma skin cancer.

The 58-year-old chef, known for his hot temper and multiple successful restaurants, told his followers he was “grateful and so appreciative” of his medical team.

The post was accompanied by a picture of Ramsay’s stitched-up skin with the promise that he had not benefited from a facelift or any such cosmetic surgery. “I promise you it’s not a facelift!” he joked. “I’d need a refund…”

Ramsay reminded his fans, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend.”

Basal cell carcinoma

A Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, but it can usually be easily treated with early detection, as it starts on the top layers of skin.

The cancer is often caused by ultraviolet light and sunlight, and predominantly impacts older and paler individuals.
