The 189 petitioners had argued that Zini lacked the experience required to lead the agency and that his selection was tainted by conflicts of interest.

The decision means the 159 polling locations no longer need approval from the Elections Committee. What remains is whether the solution is enough to end the High Court proceedings.

The court ruled that once the National Insurance Institute, or a court, determines a terror victim has an existing disability, the Palestinian Authority could be liable for providing compensation.

The Knesset told the High Court that lower professional standards among Supreme Court appointees could be justified by greater public trust and a more diverse judiciary.

It has become clear that Netanyahu and the government's problem with a state inquiry was not activist judges, but their desire to navigate the results to not be overly negative for themselves.

If elected officials choose not to comply with court rulings, the High Court of Justice warned, they risk exposure to civil lawsuits.
