Daniel Peretz is riding a formidable wave of momentum at Southampton. Following a tough opening stretch to the season in which he conceded in each of his first eight league appearances - letting in 10 goals in total - the Israeli shot-stopper has completely turned the tide. With three straight shutouts under his belt, Peretz has now gone 270 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal, setting his sights on some of the English club’s historical benchmarks.
Peretz's impressive streak kicked off with a tense 1–0 derby victory over Portsmouth, continued with a 1–0 win against Norwich, and stretched to three matches following a goalless draw against Bolton last Saturday. Over the course of these three fixtures, the Israeli goalkeeper turned away all nine shots on target he faced - recording three saves per match. Up next for Peretz and the Saints is a Saturday showdown against fellow Israeli international Manor Solomon and West Ham.
Turning back the clock
Matching Southampton’s all-time record for consecutive clean sheets requires looking back more than a century. In August 1922, the Saints set a remarkable club benchmark by keeping eight straight clean sheets.
More recently, in 2016 under manager Ronald Koeman, Southampton mounted a six-match shutout run, coming tantalizingly close to that 104-year-old mark - an exceptionally impressive feat given it occurred in top-flight soccer. Just months later, the Saints replicated that six-game defensive run across all competitions, a streak that notably featured a 0–0 draw against Hapoel Beersheba in the Europe League.
Southampton’s historical books also boast an extraordinary record for total clean sheets in a single campaign. During the 1921/22 season in the English Third Division South, the club kept shutouts in 26 out of 42 league fixtures. To this day, the tally stands in the official English Soccer League records as one of the standout achievements in professional league history. By comparison, Fraser Forster logged 14 Premier League clean sheets for Southampton during the 2016/17 season.
Building on last season's foundation
Peretz previously posted standout figures last season despite only joining the club in January. He recorded eight clean sheets across 22 Championship appearances, playing a pivotal role in Southampton’s 21-match unbeaten league run, while also keeping a clean sheet during a 1–0 FA Cup triumph over Fulham.
Now embarking on a fresh streak, the ultimate club record remains far in the distance, but the Israeli keeper is firmly moving in the right direction.
