Responding to the article 'Israel should respect One China,' Chinese embassy tells 'Post' published on October 23, I would like to solemnly reiterate that neither Taiwan nor China is subordinate to the other and that the international community recognizes this status quo.
In accordance with Taiwan’s democratization process and the principle of self-determination of peoples enshrined in the United Nations Charter, Taiwan’s sovereignty belongs to the people of Taiwan.
United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 in 1971 makes no reference to Taiwan. This is an irrefutable fact.
China’s false claim, aiming at isolating and then annexing Taiwan, has been criticized by many democracies.
This April, the US government states in the UN Security Council that “misuse of the resolution by the PRC is an attempt to isolate Taiwan, mischaracterize other countries' policies, and constrain their choices.”
Destabilizing world order to invade Taiwan
China's goal is to destabilize the world order and pave the way to legitimize its invasion of Taiwan. The threat posed by Chinese propaganda to regional and global peace cannot be overstated.
As a responsible stakeholder and a force for good in the international community, Taiwan is committed to safeguarding the peaceful status quo in the Taiwan Strait, and this is the shared interest for everyone who wants to live in peace and prosperity.
Taiwan will be working with all like-minded allies and partners to ensure regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.
