"Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also to every Mossad agent walking beside them," former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a X/Twitter post on Friday evening.

Pompeo's post came amid widespread and days-long protests against the Islamic Republic that have flared up across the country.

"The Iranian regime is in trouble," Pompeo added. "Bringing in mercenaries is its last best hope."

"Riots in dozens of cities and the Basij under siege — Mashed, Tehran, Zahedan.  Next stop:  Baluchistan," he continued.

"47 years of this regime; POTUS 47.  Coincidence?" he posted on X.

On Monday, Mossad encouraged the anti-regime protestors in a Farsi-language social media post.

“Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” the Mossad stated, adding that Mossad operatives are with the protestors "not only from a distance and verbally. We are with [them] in the field.”

Pompeo previously survived an Iranian assassination attempt

Months earlier, Pompeo made headlines after it was revealed that the Islamic Republic nearly succeeded in assassinating him, according to a book called "2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America," which was published in July.

The Washington Post gained access to the book one month before its publication, and revealed the book that the nearly successful attempt occurred while the former secretary of state was staying in a hotel room in Paris in 2022.

The book also discusses the two assassination attempts targeting United States President Donald Trump, both of which he survived during the final months of his presidential campaign. The attempts were not found to have had any links to the Islamic Republic.
