Housam al-Astal, leader of the anti-Hamas Gazan "Counterterrorism Service" militia, announced that the group killed a senior Hamas police officer in the Gaza Strip on Monday.
Hamas's official news agency, SAFA, corroborated that the terrorist, who held the position of Khan Yunis police chief, was killed in al-Mawasi, identifying him as Mahmoud al-Astal.
The terror group's "investigations" linked the shooting with "a vehicle carrying a number of Israeli occupation agents."
Hamas's rhetoric often links anti-Hamas militias, such as the "Counterterrorism Service," with Israel, describing them as "occupation agents."
The "Counterterrorism Service" is often referred to as the armed wing of the Popular Forces militia. It appears to have been founded by Ghassan Duhine, who took over as militia leader following Yasser Abu Shabab's death.
Astal appeared in a video posted to his official social media wearing a black military-style uniform, including a tactical vest bearing a Palestinian flag, and holding a rifle. He stood behind a table displaying assorted firearms, ammunition, magazines, and a camera.
Militia leader: 'Death is coming to those who work with Hamas'
In the video, Astal warns that "Those who work with Hamas, your destiny is to be killed. Death is coming to you."
Astal, whose group controls parts of Khan Yunis, alleged that the killed Hamas terrorist was responsible for "killing many people in the streets," and "committing murder of our people."
The "Counterterrorism Service" also claimed to have killed two Hamas terrorists and arrested a third on Tuesday afternoon, claiming that the operation was carried out after one terrorist "confessed" during an interrogation.
