Colors of Time - Lyrics

Stroke of brush

Green for love, red for might

Stroke of brush

Black for war,

Colors of time

How long do they last

They Come from the future

Disappear in the past

All my life’s made up

Of the flashing lights

Red and green

Black and white

They come go

And stay

But I loathe the day

When the color

Of Time

Turns grey

Turns grey

Turns grey

The composition “Colors of Time” is take from the “Shadow of Time” album.

Why did G-d create colors? I consider the answer to this and many other questions from the point of view of the necessity for the Creation and existence of Man.

Colors are a very important part of our information exchange with the world. They allow us to discern between different things, and they enable us to see boundaries. Moreover, colors allow us to discern between various emotions, which are information concepts. Here is the connection to Kabbalah and the Kabbalah of Information.

According to Kabbalah, the structure of Creation is represented by the Tree of 10 Sefirot. Allegorically, a Sefirah is a vessel filled with Light. Kabbalah of Information considers Sefirot as information concepts, such as the concept of Judgment, the concept of Wisdom etc. These 10 concepts and a vast number of their combinations are the building blocks of the chain of events that constitute Divine Providence and the actions of Man.

That is why Kabbalists associated the Sefirot with colors. There are many interpretations, but according to the Zohar, the Tree of Sefirot is associated with four colors – white, black, red, green, and their hues.

White is associated with the concept of Absolute Mercy, beyond Good and Evil.

Black is associated with concealment and darkness.

Red is associated with Judgment, Might, and Fire.

Green is associated with Loving-Kindness and Water.

But Kabbalists have never associated colors with Time.

Nobody knows what Time is, but we definitely use the notion of Time in the descriptions of the successions of events, as in earlier and later, and vice versa, we associate certain chains of events with a certain period of Time.

Since the events are governed by G-d through the concepts, we can attach the notion of color to Time. The Time of Judgment is red, and the time of war is black, etc. This is what my composition is about.

But the most important idea of Kabbalah is the two-way street of communication between G-d and Man. G-d influences Man, and Man influences G-d. That gives us the possibility to ‘paint the Time’ the color we want.

That is why I sing, “ Paint the Time the color of Love – the brush is in your hand…”
