The owner of Israeli basketball team Hapoel Tel Aviv was harassed while attending a basketball game in Greece, KAN reported on Friday.
Ofer Yanai was attending the game when a fan of the opposing Greek team, Panathinaikos, shoved him before calling Yanai a “dirty Jew” while pointing at Yanai’s kippah, according to KAN.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed with local law enforcement. The Greek fan was removed from the match and subsequently arrested.
Panathinaikos management additionally revoked the fan’s season ticket.
Yanai was reportedly recommended to remove his kippah and Hapoel Tel Aviv scarf, but refused to do so.
“There is no place for antisemitism in sports,” Yanai said after the incident, thanking Panathinaikos management for their “quick and decisive response.”
