A Tiberias resident was arrested after threatening to kill Tiberias Mayor Yossi Neveah, as well as construction workers renovating a local promenade, on Thursday.

According to a statement released by the Israel Police, the suspect entered the Tiberias municipality offices and began harassing staff. “I'll kill you. I'll terrorize you. I'll attack you wherever I see you,” the man reportedly yelled.

The Israel Police responded to the scene, arresting and detaining the suspect immediately.

The suspect was reportedly upset about construction currently underway on the long-neglected, dilapidated Yigal Alon Promenade

The suspect previously called Mayor Neveah with threats regarding the renovations. “Anyone who touches these places is dead. Anyone who touches anything, I will finish them off there on the promenade," the suspect reportedly said in the call.

Suspect charged with multiple crimes

According to the police, the man was charged with issuing threats, disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing, and obstructing a public servant. A request to extend his detention until the end of the legal proceedings was reportedly also filed.

The Israel Police stated that they take threats against elected officials “very seriously” and will “continue to act resolutely to bring to justice anyone who tries to intimidate them.”
