The Department of Internal Police Investigations questioned a Lahav 433 officer on suspicion of engaging in contact with a foreign agent, whom initial reports indicate was either from, or linked with, Iran.
The details were uncovered by Lahav 433’s cyber unit, which identified a link associated with the officer. A deeper investigation traced the link to a foreign agent.
The cyber unit forwarded the information to the Department of Internal Police Investigations, which opened an inquiry to clarify the circumstances.
The officer was summoned for questioning and, following the interrogation, was sent home under a restraining order from police facilities.
“If there was something significant here, he would be in custody, in my opinion. It’s possible this is coincidental, which is why the matter is under investigation,” a source familiar with the details told Maariv.
Israel indicts multiple Israelis over suspected spying for Iran
Several Israelis have been indicted or investigated in recent months for suspected involvement with Iranian agents.
Earlier this month, state prosecutors filed an indictment against Ahmad Daas, 27, an Israeli citizen from Tira, accusing him of maintaining contact with a hostile foreign agent and passing information to the enemy with intent to harm state security during wartime.
According to the indictment, Daas was employed as a truck driver for a transport company, a job that required him to travel throughout the country, including to sensitive sites for loading and unloading work. Prosecutors allege that he used those work routes to carry out documentation tasks for a hostile foreign agent, whom he knew was operating against Israel.
A civilian and three IDF soldiers were also indicted this month after being arrested in March on suspicion of maintaining long-term contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out security-related tasks at their direction before their military enlistment, the Shin Bet, Israel Police, and Military Police confirmed in a statement.
