Command Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Barak Kalfon, a 48-year-old combat soldier in the 226th Brigade from Adi, was killed during combat in southern Lebanon on Friday, the IDF announced Saturday evening.

In the same incident in which Kalfon was killed, two soldiers were moderately injured, and an additional soldier was lightly injured, the IDF added.

The soldiers were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and their families have been notified.

According to Maariv, Kalfon's funeral will take place on Sunday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Adi Cemetery.

The family is not interested in media coverage of the funeral.

"On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, my wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Barak Kalfon, who fought bravely and fell in South Lebanon," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement later on Saturday.

"We embrace the family and loved ones of Barak in their difficult time and wish a speedy recovery to our wounded soldiers," Netanyahu continued. "May his memory be blessed, and we will cherish him forever."

Additional soldier killed, several wounded in southern Lebanon earlier this week

Sergeant Major (Res.) Ayal Uriel Bianco, a 30-year-old fire truck driver in the 188th Brigade from Katzrin, was killed during combat in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced on Tuesday morning. 

In the same incident in which Ayal was killed, one reservist was moderately wounded, and two others sustained light injuries, the IDF added.

In addition, three IDF soldiers were severely wounded, one was moderately wounded, and an additional six were lightly wounded while fighting in southern Lebanon overnight on Monday night.

Earlier on Monday, eight IDF soldiers were wounded when an explosive drone fell in their vicinity in southern Lebanon.
