The IDF began striking in Gaza after terrorists in Gaza attempted to launch a rocket at Israel on Thursday.
Notably, the projectile fell short and nearly hit a hospital, the military stated.
The military noted that it detected the launch coming from Gaza City and that it quickly responded by striking the source of the fire.
“The IDF strongly condemns any attempts by terrorist organizations to execute terrorist attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel,” the military stated.
The IDF published footage of the strike on the rocket launcher that fired the projectile, along with an infographic showing the trajectory of the misfired rocket.
According to the graphic, the rocket landed approximately 140 meters from the hospital mentioned in the statement.
The Otef Israel Forum responded to the IDF's statement, saying that the government continues to be confused about how to act toward an enemy and chooses to contain instead of destroy.”
“Every enemy must be eliminated down to the infrastructure," the forum continued, claiming that the "objective of decisively defeating Hamas is moving further away from implementation each day."
IDF strikes Hamas shaft with rocket aimed at Sderot
The IDF action comes less than a week after it conducted a strike on a Hamas tunnel shaft in northern Gaza that it said contained a rocket launcher that was loaded and ready to fire at the southern Israeli city of Sderot.
“The shaft was used by Hamas to conceal a rocket launcher that was ready to fire toward southern Israel and posed an immediate threat to Israeli civilians,” the IDF stated at the time.
The military went on to slam the terror organization for breaching the ceasefire, noting that loading the launcher was a violation of the US-brokered agreement.
Since being implemented, Hamas has violated the agreement multiple times, including countless incidents of terrorists crossing the Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip and advancing on IDF troops operating in the area.
As well, Hamas's continued and public refusal to disarm and step down from Gaza's governance mark further violations of the agreement.
