An Israeli delegation went to Cairo to try to negotiate the release of slain hostage St.-Sgt.-Maj. Ran Gvili, the Prime Minister's Office, announced on Thursday.

The delegation was headed by the Coordinator for Hostages and Missing Persons, Brig.-Gen. (res.) Gal Hirsch, and included officials from the IDF, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), and the Mossad.

At the end of the discussions, both parties agreed to an "intensive and immediate effort" to locate Gvili's remains.

Final hostage being held in Gaza Strip

Gvili is the final hostage whose remains are being held in the Gaza Strip, after Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak's remains were returned to Israel by Hamas on Wednesday.

Gvili was killed while fighting infiltrating Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, after saving the lives of those fleeing the Nova music festival in Re’im and defending Kibbutz Alumim.

He was an officer in Israel Police's Special Patrol Unit (YASAM).
