Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz discussed political and Middle Eastern issues in a conversation on Sunday, the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

The talk, which the PMO described as “good and friendly,” comes after the Telegraph reported on Saturday that the German leader said that “Israel is doing the dirty work for all of us,” in response to a reporter’s question about the Israel-Iran war at June’s G7 summit.

According to the report, members of parliament of Merz’s center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) said that Germany had become “hugely dependent” on Israel for its defense technology.
