The IDF detained several West Bank settlers who set fire to Palestinian vehicles and trucks, as well as a factory and agricultural land in Beit Lid, near the Palestinian city of Tulkarm in the northern West Bank.
The Israeli military said its forces were dispatched to the area after Palestinian media reported hilltop youth launched an arson attack on local trucks belonging to a dairy factory near Beit Lid. The attack reportedly extended to the factory, as well as agricultural lands, metal sheds, and several tents belonging to Bedouin families.
Four Palestinians were injured in the attack.
"IDF soldiers were dispatched to the area of the Beit Lid and Deir Sharaf villages following a report of dozens of masked Israeli civilians who attacked Palestinians and set fire to property in the area," the military said in a statement.
The IDF added that soldiers "dispersed the confrontation using riot dispersal means."
The Israel Police's central unit stated that it was collecting evidence at the scene and would be investigating further.
Settlers attack IDF soldiers in West Bank
Later, the military was dispatched to the Baron Industrial Zone, where the rioters had fled. Hilltop Youth members attacked IDF soldiers and punctured the tires of a military vehicle.
"The IDF strongly condemns all forms of violence that distract commanders and soldiers from their operational duties of protecting the area and conducting counterterrorism activities. The apprehended individuals were transferred to the Israel Police for further handling," the statement said.
President Isaac Herzog called the incident "shocking and severe."
"Such violence against civilians and IDF soldiers crosses a red line, and I strongly condemn it. All state authorities must act decisively to eradicate this phenomenon and to strengthen the IDF soldiers and security forces who protect us day and night."
