What a hot week that was earlier this month. Soaring temperatures, shattering records since records began, melting the patience of an already tightly wound nation.

And what better way to get through the scorching weather than escaping to a hotel on the coast where you can cool off from the crazy heat in the cool seawater or a luxurious outdoor pool. Or you can go to a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Jerusalem and avoid the nasty sunburns and heat stroke, which is what I did.

Opposite the Jerusalem Theater stands the Theatron Hotel, a new hotel where guests can take the time out of their busy lives and unwind and de-stress. The hotel has 73 rooms, which include three suites as well as deluxe and superior rooms. With a 24-hour gym and indoor pool as well as access to spa treatments, the Theatron Hotel gives guests the perfect break from the hectic world we live in.

Arriving at the hotel

After playing chicken with a bus on a narrow Jerusalem road, my wife and I arrived at the hotel in the early afternoon. Upon entering the hotel, which has a very accessible underground parking lot, we checked in at the front desk and then waited in the very elegant lobby for someone to show us to our room. In the lobby, there is a well-stocked bar and comfortable seating. The walls are all made of Jerusalem stone, giving an authentic and warm environment.  We were then shown to our deluxe room, which was nicely cooled and spacious. The bed was comfortable and big, while the marble bathroom had a modern aesthetic. The stylish shower has an overhead rain option together with a hand-held shower head. A little different from usual was that the sinks were outside the bathroom and inside the room.

The room was also equipped with a fridge, a large TV, and a coffee machine. The coffee machine took some time to work out, but after calling reception, we were kindly given a demonstration on how to use it.

Currently, the hotel is not serving meals other than breakfast during the week, but because of the great location, there are plenty of places to find food nearby. Buses are frequent, and when the weather is not so hot, there are many cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

We took a small bus ride to find something to eat, and upon returning from our lunch, we went to cool off in the indoor pool, which was thankfully almost empty. I was impressed that it wasn’t crowded and found it very relaxing. Outside the pool are a number of poolside beds where you can take it easy and unwind.

Following our swim and a little rest, we decided to go out again for supper. As the evening was more pleasant, we walked to Emek Refaim, which is a relatively short walk away. There are buses from outside the hotel to go into town, but we decided to take a walk down memory lane, visiting our old home and some of the spots we used to go nearly 20 years ago.

After dinner, we decided to call it a night and head back to the hotel. One of the things that was nice about our room was how quiet it was. Even though we faced a main street, we didn’t hear traffic or any of the hustle and bustle outside.

In the morning, the hotel provided a very plentiful and delicious breakfast with many options that will keep you full for most of the day. It was then time to leave and head back into the chaos that is life. I would recommend the Theatron Hotel for anyone who wants to take the time out from their busy schedules and recharge their batteries, as long as they don’t overheat.
