Two terrorists planning an armed terror attack and the establishment of a new, local terror cell were arrested, the IDF, Israel Police, and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced in a statement on Monday.
The two were arrested in the al-Am’ari refugee camp near Ramallah during a joint operation by Israel Police's Lahav 433 Unit and the IDF Binyamin Regional Brigade based on intelligence collected by the Shin Bet.
Both suspects were released from "security imprisonment," the statement noted, and were believed to be carrying multiple firearms.
Following their arrest, the two were transferred to the Shin Bet for further investigation.
Further counterterrorism efforts
This operation follows a series of arrests last week in Kalandiya, Kalkilya, and Ra'anana of individuals suspected of carrying out potential attacks. A total of seven were arrested on terror-related charges.
Forty-two illegal Palestinian residents from Gaza were also arrested by Israeli security forces in Nazareth last week as part of an operation aimed at preventing illegal stay offenses.
