Palestinians and Israelis threw stones at each other after the Israelis entered Joseph's Tomb in Nablus on Friday morning.
This came after Israeli civilians attempted to enter Nablus without coordinating with the IDF and "in violation of the law," the IDF clarified.
The military closed off entry points into Nablus and "operated to disperse the gatherings," the military confirmed.
All civilians were evacuated from the area around Joseph's Tomb by the IDF, and will be transferred to Israel Police for further questioning, given the illegality of their presence there, the IDF added.
Several Israelis were reportedly injured during the event.
'Dangerous and prohibited by law'
Entry of Israeli civilians into Area A is "dangerous and prohibited by law," the IDF emphasized.
Joseph's Tomb is the site of frequent pilgrimages for religious Jews, despite the dangerous location, particularly on the first night of the new month in the Jewish calendar, known as Rosh Chodesh.
While most of these visits are coordinated with the IDF for security, as well as legal obligations, this latest pilgrimage, which occurred during Rosh Chodesh on Thursday night, was uncoordinated.
