Israeli citizen Yehuda Peer was one of nine Pennsylvania residents charged with illegally voting in the 2024 US election, the US Department of Justice announced on Friday.

Peer, a lawful permanent US resident but not a US citizen, has been charged with one count of voting by an alien.

Citizens of Poland, Cuba, Kenya, Russia, Greece, and the Netherlands have also been charged with voting in the 2024 and 2022 elections.

If convicted, they face a maximum possible sentence of a fine, one year in prison, or both.

Illegal voting affront to principles of democratic republic, US attorney says

“These cases are important because the crime of illegal voting undermines the integrity of our elections and harms citizens by stealing the power of our votes,” said Brian Miller, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

“Illegal voting is not a victimless crime but a serious affront to the principles of our democratic republic,” he added.

“Illegally casting a ballot in a federal election corrupts the electoral process and diminishes the voice of every lawful voter. These alleged violations undermine public confidence in our democratic institutions and harm the citizens whose votes are entitled to determine our nation’s future,” said Homeland Security Investigations Philadelphia Special Agent in Charge Nathan Abel.
