Greenland's capital Nuuk experienced a citywide power outage late on Saturday that local utility provider Nukissiorfiit said was due to an accident, adding that it was working to provide backup power.
The blackout occurred simultaneously across the city, according to eyewitness accounts.
Nukissiorfiit and Greenland's police issued statements on Facebook about the outage, but neither provided details on the accident.
The disruption followed an update to Greenlandic authorities' emergency preparedness guidelines earlier in the week, in response to US President Donald Trump's expressed interest in acquiring the Danish territory.
Trump abandons threat of tariffs against European allies
Trump on Wednesday said the US would not use force to pursue his ambition to acquire Greenland and later dropped the threat of additional tariffs against some of Washington's European allies and fellow NATO members over the issue.
During an interview with Fox News Business on Thursday, Trump said he is negotiating with European officials to guarantee the United States' "total access" to Greenland. "I mean, we're talking about, it's really being negotiated now, the details of it, but essentially it's total access. There's no end, there's no time limit," he said.
This is a developing story.
