An Israeli tourist was arrested in Thailand on Thursday after authorities at Phuket International Airport discovered ammunition in his luggage, according to Thai media reports on Friday.
The unnamed 26-year-old was found to be carrying a magazine containing 29 5.56 mm bullets.
The Israeli national was reportedly about to board a domestic flight when the ammunition was discovered in his baggage.
He has since been detained and charged with illegal possession of ammunition. If found guilty, he faces between one and 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $620.
Israeli visitors in Thailand
The arrest comes only a day after an Israeli couple was charged following complaints by locals that the two had engaged in a public sex act at a waterfall in the country.
Earlier this week, an Israeli national was also arrested for armed robbery in the popular tourist spot.
“The majority of Israeli tourists are good tourists who love traveling to Thailand,” Israeli Ambassador to Bangkok Alona Fisher-Kamm said earlier this week. “Only a small minority behave inappropriately or break the law, and we fully support Thai authorities taking legal action as they would with any other nationality.”
