Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized late Saturday evening after a car crash near Manchester, New Hampshire, a spokesperson said.

Giuliani suffered a fractured vertebra as well as other cuts, the spokesperson, Michael Ragusa, said in a post on X/Twitter. He said Giuliani's rental car was hit from behind at high speed.

New Hampshire police said that both cars were heavily damaged.

Ragusa added that Giuliani was assisting a woman who was a victim of a domestic violence incident and that he "immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911."

He also said the former mayor was "in great spirits" and expected to be released from the hospital in a few days.

Police also stated that no charges have been filed at this time and that all aspects of the crash remain under investigation.

Ragusa also told CNN that “this was a wrong place, wrong time accident” and ruled out any chance that Giuliani was targeted.

State police identified the driver who struck Giuliani’s car, who was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!" Andrew Giuliani, Rudy's son, stated on X/Twitter.
