A heat wave hit Israel on Sunday and will be especially powerful during the first half of the week, the Israel Meteorological Service warned.

The weather will become unseasonably hot in the mountains and inland areas, and muggy along the coastal plain.

Heavy heat stress will prevail in many areas. At the moment, there is no end in sight for the upcoming heatwave.

Israel Meteorological Service Director-General, Dr. Amir Givati, forecast that the heatwave will persist next week at varying intensities.

The high temperatures will characterize the entire Mediterranean region and southern Europe over the coming days, but in western and central Europe, the heatwave will give way next week to more comfortable temperatures and even rain.
