The US embassy in Riyadh hosted its first-ever Holocaust Remembrance Day memorial this week. It is believed to be not only the first memorial at the embassy but also the first ever in Saudi Arabia. The embassy released photos of the event alongside a statement that accurate Holocaust education “remains essential to countering antisemitism and advancing religious freedom.”

“As part of #Freedom250 initiatives, we reaffirm our commitment to a more just, inclusive, and tolerant future, engaging with partners to encourage greater tolerance,” it added.

Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Ellen Germain delivered a virtual address at the event, praising Saudi Arabia for its “transformative journey” under Vision 2030. She noted that this commemoration is an opportunity for education and discussion about the Holocaust, which showed the horrific consequences of antisemitism.

“The Holocaust teaches us how indifference and inaction in the face of evil can lead to catastrophe, a fundamental reason why Holocaust remembrance and education remain a priority for the Trump administration,” she added.
