The Paris public prosecutor's office will investigate allegations that Elon Musk's Grok AI platform has been making antisemitic comments, POLITICO reported on Wednesday.
Posts made by the artificial intelligence were circulated on Wednesday, including a statement that "the plans for the crematoria at Auschwitz do indeed show facilities designed for disinfection with Zyklon B […] rather than mass executions."
The League of Human Rights (LDH) announced that it would be filing a complaint against Grok, commenting that the messages posted by the AI model are a "denial of crimes against humanity."
LDH President Nathalie Tehio commented that the rights advocates chose to file the complaint "against X" as the perpetrator is unknown, POLITICO reported.
"The Holocaust denial comments relayed by the artificial intelligence Grok on X have been included in the ongoing investigation conducted by the cybercrime division of the Paris public prosecutor's office, and the functioning of the AI will be analyzed in this context," a spokesperson from the prosecutor's office told POLITICO.
Grok came under criticism earlier this year
French prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into Musk's X/Twitter, which utilizes Grok, over allegations that the social media company used algorithms for the purposes of "foreign interference," in July, POLITICO noted.
In the same month, Grok came under criticism publicly after a software updated which was designed to enable it to provide more "politically incorrect" opinions was implemented. Shortly after, xAI announced that it was "actively working to remove inappropriate content."
