A man was arrested in Cannes, France, after threatening to blow up a synagogue in a social media post.
In Monday’s live video, the man, claiming to be Algerian, said he planned to buy €5,000 worth of C4 [explosive] in Marseille. “They give me 10 kg.; I’ll blow up the synagogue!” He added, “I’m going to make a hole the size of an asteroid.”
He went on to demand “€500 million” not to take action.
The man also mumbled somewhat incoherent threats about wanting to take his “Japanese sword” and “behead you on the Croisette [Promenade].”
Cannes mayor alerts police after seeing video
Cannes Mayor David Lisnard wrote on X/Twitter that he had immediately alerted the police after seeing the video and commended the “swift action of the law enforcement agencies.”
“These threats reveal a reality that no one can ignore: France is facing a violent antisemitism that demands an authoritative, clear, and determined response,” said Nice Municipal Councilor Jean Moucheboeuf.
