A Jewish man in Montreal was physically assaulted in front of his three children, according to video footage published on X/Twitter, which was then reported by Canadian channel CTV.
Montreal police received a call at around 2:45 p.m., where they first heard of the incident that occurred at the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.
The victim, 32, was struck multiple times, and video footage documented, with the perpetrator leaving before officers arrived at the scene. It also showed the suspect throwing the Jewish man's kippah to the ground before leaving.
Victim of attack sent to hospital
The victim was later hospitalized, CTV learned from a Hasidic community spokesperson.
On X/Twitter, one user reposted the video of the incident, saying: "This happened to a friend of mine today in Montreal! He was minding his own business with his kids in a park! Why did it take the police an hour to respond?"
Previous antisemitic incidents in Quebec
Antisemitic incidents have risen in Quebec in recent years following Hamas's October 7 attacks.
In May, Quebec medical school students and applicants using a public Discord group named "Med serveur" posted antisemitic, misogynist, and racist content.
The aspiring doctors reportedly spread Holocaust denial, praised the “Final Solution,” and degraded women in the group of 1,400-plus members.
The channel was created for students to discuss applications to Quebec’s four medical schools.
