HERE Technologies launched in November 2025 an extensive 3D mapping project across Israel, as part of an international initiative aimed at establishing a new generation of highly accurate digital maps. This move positions Israel on the list of countries participating in the company’s broad global project, designed to support the development of smart navigation systems, advanced transportation solutions, and autonomous vehicle technologies.
The project, expected to continue until the end of February 2026, is based on some of the world’s most advanced imaging and mapping technologies, intended to capture urban and interurban environments in high resolution, while integrating multiple data sources to create a highly precise and up-to-date information layer.
As part of the work, HERE’s dedicated vehicles equipped with advanced cameras and innovative sensors will drive across the country. The clearly marked cars will document traffic lanes, signage, road markings, buildings, as well as points of interest such as restaurants, shops, and gas stations. The large amount of data collected will be used by the company to create detailed 3D maps that will support a range of technological services – from optimizing vehicle traffic in city centers, to improving driver and pedestrian safety, and providing innovative tools for public transportation and urban management. The goal is to provide a data infrastructure that will enable smarter decision-making in transportation and urban planning, alongside improving the driving and navigation experience.
HERE emphasizes that the entire mapping process is carried out with strict adherence to protecting public privacy. The images captured by the cameras are first securely stored in the vehicle itself, and only then transferred to a closed and protected facility, where they undergo processing using advanced algorithms for face and license plate recognition. All identifying information is deleted or blurred before the images become part of the public maps. The company notes that if an unblurred detail appears in a map by mistake, it can be easily reported using the “Report Image” option appearing at the bottom of the image. This policy, says HERE, reflects the company’s commitment to protecting residents’ privacy while promoting technological innovation.
HERE Technologies, whose offices operate worldwide, is considered one of the leading companies in the field of digital mapping and location solutions. The company provides services to governments, transportation companies, and car manufacturers, offering a platform that integrates real-time location data with advanced analytics for informed decision-making. Its activity in Israel is part of its global efforts to improve transportation quality, reduce traffic congestion, and provide innovative tools for smart cities.
