Wi-Charge, a global leader in long-range wireless power transfer, and Kontrol, an innovative Israeli company in smart biometric access, have launched the Kontrol BIO+, the world's first smart biometric lock powered by electricity “from the air.”
This collaboration eliminates the need for wiring or battery replacement, setting a new standard for smart lock design. Wi-Charge integrated its AirCord technology for infrared power transfer into Kontrol’s new smart biometric lock. This is the first commercially available biometric lock in the world that charges wirelessly, removing the need for wiring or battery replacement.
The Kontrol BIO+ is designed for installation in private homes, apartments, offices, and commercial spaces. It combines advanced biometric recognition with continuous, maintenance-free wireless power supply. Users can unlock doors using facial recognition, palm vein scanning, fingerprints, codes, IC cards, or a mobile app. Certain models also feature an external camera and an internal display for live viewing and notifications.
With wireless charging, Wi-Charge enables a truly maintenance-free user experience. No dead batteries, no need for replacements, and no risk of being locked out. This reduces maintenance costs for property managers and removes hassle for homeowners. Wi-Charge’s AirCord system delivers safe infrared energy, approved by the FDA, FCC, UL, and IEC, with a range of up to 10 meters line-of-sight, keeping the lock always active.
The smart lock supports multiple biometric options: Facial recognition, palm vein scanning, fingerprint, code, IC card, or mobile app. It has smart features such as an integrated camera, internal display, remote alerts, and app control. The design prioritizes privacy: Local biometric storage on the device, video only with user consent, and user-controlled deletion. Additionally, it has a dedicated Sabbath mode for Israel.
“For over a decade, smart access solutions have been limited by wiring and battery constraints,” said Uri Mor, founder, partner, and Chief Business Officer at Wi-Charge. “By integrating wireless power into a biometric lock, we are redefining the industry standard. Energy is no longer an obstacle; it is an enabler for smarter, safer locks that are always active and ready.”
Kael Sultan, CEO and founder of Kontrol, added: “Our priority is to provide locks that work seamlessly in reality: Secure, intuitive, and maintenance-free. Together with Wi-Charge, we finally give property managers and residents a system that eliminates service calls, downtime, and installation constraints, while raising the bar for biometric security.”
