Some things take 90 years to arrive, but when they do, it feels worth the wait. Haifa Airport, established in 1934, has finally received what it lacked all these years: An international duty-free store.

The store opened in a festive ceremony with Sharon Kedmi, CEO of the Israel Airports Authority, and the co-CEOs of LAYAM—the company from the Teddy Sagi Group that will operate the store. This is not just a store opening; it is a symbol of Haifa’s return to the international aviation map.

“For someone born in Haifa, this is closing a circle”

Sharon Kedmi did not hide his excitement: "As someone born in Haifa, this is a small closing of a circle for me. We foresee a great future for Haifa Airport. According to the plans of Minister Miri Regev, we intend to invest about half a billion shekels in airport infrastructure that will allow for increased activity and reestablish Haifa as a departure and return point for many Israelis."

The new store spans 200 sqm and offers a rich variety of luxury products: Tobacco, alcohol, perfumes, chocolates, candies, mobile accessories, and toys—all from the world’s leading brands.

Sharon Agubel, co-CEO of LAYAM, explained the significance: "The opening of the first duty-free store at Haifa Airport is a historic moment, and we are excited to be part of it. We see it as a great honor to contribute to restoring international operations at Haifa Airport."

The opening comes against the backdrop of the airport’s return to full operations, including international flights by "Air Haifa" to popular destinations such as Cyprus and Greece.
