Google announced one of the cutest developments in the field of artificial intelligence: The ability to create a personalized illustrated children’s book, directly through the Gemini app or website. The new service, now officially launched and available in Hebrew, enables parents, teachers, and children to produce enchanting, high-quality 10-page books within minutes, including professional narration, unique illustration styles, and even the integration of personal drawings or photos from your phone.

With a simple command like “Create a book” or “Make me a storybook,” any user can ask Gemini to write a new book from scratch, based on a chosen topic — whether it’s an adventure about a family trip to Paris, an educational story about oral hygiene, or a fairy tale starring the child as an elephant who protects the forest. Within seconds, a complete story is generated, with child-friendly text, stunning illustrations, and often a meaningful and thought-provoking message.

One of the advanced features of the new service is support for 24 languages, including Hebrew, English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and more. This means the story can also be narrated professionally in the child’s native language. Google also offers near-complete creative freedom: After the book is generated, it can be freely edited — from changing the title and characters, to replacing illustrations and even rewriting the ending. Users can also choose the illustration style in advance: A comic book with speech bubbles, watercolor paintings, or a coloring book where the child can add their own colors.

For example, a parent who wants to explain the solar system to a five-year-old can instruct Gemini to write a story in which a smiling sun introduces the planets. If the child’s age is specified, the system will adjust the language and level of detail accordingly. A story like this, told through imaginative and friendly characters, is likely to resonate better than a dry scientific explanation.

Parents who want to convey an emotional lesson — like the importance of caring for younger siblings — can formulate a precise request: “Create a story in which a 7-year-old learns to listen to his little brother. Make the child a friendly elephant, because my son loves elephants.” In moments, you’ll receive a story about an elephant trying to play alone, slowly learning to include his younger brother in his games.

One of the unique features is the ability to “bring kindergarten drawings to life”: Parents can photograph a child’s drawing, upload it to Gemini, and ask it to create a story based on the character in the picture. For example: “This is a drawing by my 6-year-old son. Write me an illustrated story about the hero he drew.” A simple sketch is transformed into a full story, complete with plot, supporting characters, color, and a powerful sense of pride for the young creator.

Family memories also get a new life. Instead of just saving photos from the last trip to Paris or vacation in Eilat, you can ask Gemini to create an adventure based on those pictures — with the children becoming heroes exploring the Louvre, riding a hot air balloon over the Eiffel Tower, or discovering hidden treasure in the alleys of Jerusalem. The result is not only impressive but can also be saved as a digital book that becomes a personal gift or printed keepsake.

At Maariv, we tried the new feature ourselves. We typed a simple request into the app: “Create a children’s book about a tall pediatrician named Doctor Gal.” Within seconds, we received an astonishing result: The AI generated an adorable 10-page children’s book, with sweet text and colorful illustrations showing the smiling doctor helping a young patient and telling her about his hobbies. Try it yourself — and let us know in the comments how it turned out.
