Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing criticism — again.

On Sunday, before making his remarks about a deadly antisemitic terror attack in Australia, he made a celebratory sports comment. Critics have called Schumer’s comments insensitive, given the gravity of the mass shooting that left many dead.

“I’m going to say a few words about the shooting in Australia,” Schumer begins in a clip shared on X/Twitter. “So first, of course, no matter what, go Bills! They beat the Patriots today. It’s a big deal."

Bondi Beach attack on Sydney Jewish communities

On Sunday, a mass shooting occurred at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia. Two gunmen opened fire on a large crowd gathered for a Jewish community event.

The incident has been declared a terrorist attack by Australian authorities, motivated by antisemitism. At least 15 people were killed, and 27 others are in hospitals after the shooting.

The attack — one of the deadliest in Australia’s history— has renewed debate over gun laws and domestic security.

The Bills were down 21-0 to the Patriots in the first half on Sunday. They ended up winning the game 35-31.

The 21-point comeback win is the largest ever by a visiting team at Gillette Stadium and is tied for the second-largest regular-season comeback in Bills history.
