US First Lady Melania Trump threatened to sue Hunter Biden for over $1 billion after he claimed the first lady was introduced to Donald Trump by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, American media outlets reported on Wednesday.

In a video interview earlier in August, Hunter, son of former US president Joe Biden, claimed that "Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep."

In the interview with filmmaker Andrew Callaghan, Biden claimed unreleased documents relating to Epstein would "implicate" Trump.

Fox News claimed to have exclusively received the letter from Melania Trump's attorney, which was sent to Hunter Biden and his attorney on August 6.

According to Fox, the first lady's lawyer, Alejandro Brito, demanded that Biden "immediately retract the false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements made about Mrs Trump."

"Failure to comply will leave Mrs. Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer," Melania Trump's attorney wrote.

Biden's comments caused Trump to 'suffer overwhelming financial, reputational harm'

Melania Trump's lawyer said that Biden's comments have "caused Mrs. Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm," calling for the retraction of the video and issuing an apology to the first lady.

Fox News reported that Brito said that if Biden didn't comply by August 7, Melania Trump would file legal action "for over $1 in damages. You are on notice."

A source told Fox News that Biden did not comply with the requests by the set deadline.
